How I restored my Windows 7 default fonts

Well … it happen to me to have installed on my computer a lot of additional new fonts. Around 2000. Some of them ware installed manually but most of them was found on a collection on the internet. After I installed all this fonts I start to experience a lot of problems with the way some websites and applications were showing information (strange scripts or ugly fonts). The problem was that I replaced some of the default fonts and the only solution was to restore my windows font folder to its default form. For that I followed this steps:

1. I went to C:\Windows\Fonts (C:\ is my Windows drive) and I deleted as much fonts as i could. (ctrl+a to select all and delete key to delete … skipped where the system couldn’t remove the files)

2. Download the default Font folder (.zip file, 183MB):

Download “Windows 7 Default Font Folder” Windows7DefaultFonts.zip – Downloaded 38142 times – 183 MB

3. Extract the content of that folder.

4. Select all the files in the extracted folder (ctrl+a)

5. Right click and select Install

And that’s it. Hope you’ll enjoy. The post picture can be found here.

Thank you for upload the default Font folder.
    Regards from Spain.

  2. Thank you so much… saved me a lot of time!!! I accidently overwrote one of my fonts with a bad copy that had missing letters and was able to find the font I needed here and fix my problem.

  3. THANK YOU! MANY MANY THANKS!

You’re the only one who helped me while I was trying to get rid of a bold text/font all over my windows 7…

    Brian

  4. Thx man, i’m creating a website and didn’t know which fonts are for commercial use because i installed many fonts now i know which fonts i can use

  5. WOW. I had installed a bunch of fonts for a program that I use. Then few days later noticed a few fonts different. Then installed iTunes and most of the words/info was plain blank. I was thinking of a virus. Checked everything and was clean. So I just installed all of these and overwrite what was on there…. BAM!!! Everything back to normal. Thanks a lot.

  6. Thanks, you saved me. One whole day I was searching internet, trying every advice to fix my fonts, but only this one helped, cheers!

  7. you are the boss! my browsers went nuts for some strange reason and it was because some missing font (i don’t know which one). i reinstall all the fonts from your zip file and problem solved. thanks.

  8. Thanks! Atlast.. I hate M$ they can’t even provide a support from this small problem.

  9. Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!
    VERY MUCH!!!

  10. Can’t seem to find a link anywhere to the ‘default Font folder’.

If anyone can provide me with, or help me get this link, it’d be immensely appreciated.

    Huge thanks in advance.

    Alex

  11. I hate to be a nuisance, but it seems like the download link to the fonts folder is up, but the link is not active. Unfortunately, I get a big, fat, ugly ‘404 Error’ page.

Just trying to get this issue resolved as it seems that this is the only thing that has seemed to work for all these people.

Any assistance is once again, hugely appreciated. Thanks!

    Alex

    1. Thank you Alex for your notice … yes, We had a problem with the download system of the website. Now it should work good…. apologize for the inconvenience.

  12. Well Bogdan, I cannot thank you enough for adhering to my small inconvenience. I followed the steps, installed all the fonts in the file, and voilà! Everything is running perfectly.

My webpages no longer have italic text all over them, and everything is back to the way it should be.

Thank you so, so much, once again! You’re the man, Bogdan!

  13. Another one: thank you so much. I do not know why, but my Firefox fonts became bold. I tried everything, even change the register. Your tutotrial just worked.

  14. Thank you so much! I overwritten the original fonts (i currently have 23000 fonts) at it looks terrible. I will just use this to overwrite the overwritten default fonts :D

  15. I have tried download the zip file, but there is unfortunately an error almost on the end of the download.
Or I can not explaine that. I have been used more browsers to download it, but still with the same “effect”.

  16. Hello…can you mirror it somewhere else?
I’ve tried downloading for like three times using different programs and it always failed.

Your effort will be much appreciated…thanks

  17. @John … Try without any download accelerator. It should work (I’ve tested the link on 3 different computers/internet connections and worked). If you still encounter problems let me know and I can help you with a direct link (like dropbox or something).

  18. Hi, I tried to download the file, but it stops at 174 MB so the archive is corrupted! I need these fonts a lot. Please, help me

  19. I tried downloading it twice but I can only get up to 112MB of data then it stops downloading. I tried to unzip it to extract but it can’t open. I badly need help.

  20. Please try without using any download accelerator. You have to download the entire file (183.5 MiB) otherwise you will not be able to extract the .zip archive.

  21. Tried downloading 3 times. It always stops at 168MB :( i really need these fonts and it seems that only you have them. Maybe you can upload it somewhere else? Please help. Thanks in advance. </3

  22. Hi there, my download won’t complete either, please could you send to me via dropbox. Also pretty desperate to get hold of these fonts. Thanks so much in advance!!!!!!

  23. Thank-u! Is the download supposed to take 20min from dropbox, not sure if my internet connection is too slow? Would it be at all possible to share the folder directly to my dropbox? Or is that not okay from your side???? Thanks so much for your response!

  24. Ok now, I’m feeling pretty thick. The fonts are all in my dropbox folder, and when I looked before I didn’t see them. But before I delete all my existing fonts, I wanted to check I understood everything you said. So within my drop box folder I clicked on all the fonts in the font folder and right clicked to install. BUT it doesn’t give me an install option only: open, cut, copy, delete and properties. What am I doing wrong please? (as I said haven’t actually deleted the other fonts through fear of doing something wrong, or getting halfway and getting confused) So appreciate all this help. Thank-u so much!!!!!! Clearly no computer wizz-kid me!!!!!

  25. shelley, that sounds as if you first have to get them out of the zip archive. Click “copy” and insert the files into another folder. There, you select them all, right click and then you should be able to hit “install”.

Bogdan, I also encountered problems with the original download link. The download stopped at a file size of 166.768.640 bytes. You may want to put the mirror link into the article, because this download worked absolutely fine.

    I like your website.

Thank you so very much for the upload and the support you provide. <3

  26. I just want to say thank you soooooo much i was so tired of trying to find a solution but you just saved my laptop thaaaank you … Wish you all the best in life ^_^ ^_^ :D

  27. Well I am downloading the default folder now. Trusting your content!!. if any problems I will post back.

But to be honest after all 3 hours trying to sort this problem looking at many technical / professional / support websites websites it is clear this is the simplest solution. I spent the time trying to avoid doing this, but ….

To help others find this i will if OK with the website now post several search terms i used to get hear to helpfully save others the time and b…….t !!

  28. I’m running a Linux distro with LXDE and I was looking for a couple of MS fonts like arial, tahoma, verdana, times new roman, calibri and segoe ui, and I found them in your pack. Thank you very much.

Although I’m grateful, this is not the reason of my comment. I wanted to let you know that your fonts are not visible on systems that don’t have your fonts used by the CSS theme file. You should add to your font-family of the options: sans or sans-serif, at the end. Just in case the visitors don’t have the fonts you are targeting.

  29. I know everyone says thanks but I wanted to stand out so FUCK YOU!, but seriously I love you for uploading these, I was so dreading having to copy these from another computer, you saved my day, quite literally.

  30. I never leave reply no matter what, but this font problem went on for days and I tried a million solutions and none of them worked till yours. Thanks

    Hvala puno.
    Pozdrav!

  32. Thank you for this! I deleted some important system fonts because I thought I had no need for Chinese, etc. on my computer. I was wrong. Apparently you now need Chinese – some people say it is because of Unicode, others say it is because Windows is Made In China these days. I tend to believe the latter. _

  33. Thank you very much!
Seems impossible to find those fonts as a pack to download anywhere (but I didn´t check my Win 7 DVD though :D )

  34. DAMN! When I try to download the .zip file it says:
    Error (509)
This account’s public links are generating too much traffic and have been temporarily disabled!

    Please HELP!!!

    1. Yes, unfortunately the download link is getting blocked in the beginning of each month after just a couple of days. Now you have 3 download mirrors…. please try and see if it’s ok ;)

  35. Thanks man. Stupid MS and all other fonts sites circling around the problem and none of them tells you where to download f…en fonts. You are the only helps out for the issue. Thanks.

  36. sheesh……have been fighting with SevenForums for the past hour to create a login for the only purpose of sending this message {sorry, I just couldn’t get it to work right}:
A_Guy….you are TRULY ‘a righteous dude’ A thousand thousand thanks and many more wishes for all the best to you…..вялікі дзякуй свет яму і благаслаўленне

    1. Hi! The fonts are the ones that you get with your normal windows installation (default fonts collection from Microsoft Windows). I guess there are a lot of fonts that supports multilanguage.

  37. Worked for me. Thanks. Constant BSODs and I could not even get to the fonts folder to restore the defaults. Safe mode, command line, deleted all fonts, installed the default fonts that you provided. All now works fine no BSOD.

  38. works 100%. Thanks very much… i got tired of searching sollutions and was about to reinstall windows.

  39. Ogromnoe Spasibo! Thanks a bunch that is! You actually don’t have to delete your old fonts, as upon “install” the new fonts overwrite the existing ones.

  40. Yesterday I somehow lost all but 10 fonts from my C:\Windows\Fonts folder (suspect it was due to an Adobe Reader update) which made the screens look odd (font-wise) as well as crashing Google Chrome at every launch attempt. Found your solution on my last of many web searches before I was going to try a restore from a three month old system image backup. Many, many, many thanks to Bogdan!!!

  41. This fix brought tears to my eyes. I have been so frustrated since my email font turned to garbage I was ready to trash this pc and turn to Mac.

  42. Hey how many mb is this? thanks in advanced!
Can you reupload it on 4shared or mediafire.

  43. Undeniably consider that that you said. Your
favourite reason seemed to be on the net the easiest factor to
understand of. I say to you, I definitely get annoyed at the same time as other folks consider concerns
that they plainly don’t recognize about. You managed to
hit the nail upon the highest and outlined out the entire thing without
having side effect , folks could take a signal. Will likely be back to get more.
    Thanks

    1. 183MB in size … you will not be able to delete all fonts … system fonts will remain .. therefore, it should be quite safe to do this. Anyway … i recommend you to backup your files and make a windows restore point… just to be sure.

  44. Capo, divo, jesus! it seemed imposible, but after having problems with crashes, reinstallation, and slow experience with the program, it seems im going to give the class work at time :)

  45. Literally, I cannot find a way to express my gratitude my friend.
I was at the point of desperation for 2 days, searching the internet with so many solutions that just didnt work.

    You are MOST welcome.

  46. Thank you so much! I’ve been trying to find a solution for hours, this was simple and perfect! Thank you, Thank you, Thank you!!!

  47. I cant leave this place without saying Thanks. Thank you very much. Surprisingly the whole internet has misleading info about this issue.

  48. Just want to say a big thanks as I been searching all morning how to do this. I stupidly deleted protected system fonts a few days ago, through the registry, as the control panel would not let me. I thought of course I was being clever. I started running in to some issues with some emails displaying weird fonts. Hopefully now, things are back to normal. Thanks a million, you’re extremely kind to make this an easy fix for so many people.

  49. Greeting from Indiana. I would greatly appreciate it if this set of fonts will reset and work with Windows 10 as well.
This was very nice of you to share. I just do not want to make things worse for myself.
    Thanks you sincerely in advance.
